On the plus side, it’s a nice wavetable synth with 3 oscillators. Lots of waveforms, the standardd as well as odder digital algorithms and even some based on vintage synth tones. Lots of modulation and a good deal of Aftertouch possibilities. No, it is isn’t perfect…the filter isn’t great, and the envelopes are really ‘touchy’, but it’s free so what’s to complain about? Well…to begin with, Vogue MK2 seems a bit ‘buggy’ and often crashes with specific settings and/or length of use. But the biggest Negative with this is that it seems to be a standalone device ONLY. Really doesn’t seem a well thought-out choice by Apple to release this as standalone only. Because, as a musician, or for anyone that created a cool tone or setting and wants to actually do something with it…what can you do? No integration with Apple Logic or Garageband (or any other DAW). Why an AU/VST version wasn’t released alongside the standalone unit is beyond me. I think this is going to be most people’s major complaint.

Limplementazione MIDI è un disastro: se suoni più di due note al secondo, rimangono "accese" diverse note (non percepisce i note-off!!!). I suoni, poi, sono proprio poveri. Se utilizzo la stessa configurazione hardware con GARAGE-BAND08, funziona tutto perfettamente, segno che non si può imputare allhardware, il problema della lentezza. The MIDI implementation is a disaster, you cant play more than two notes per second, otherwise some notes remain ON (doesnt perceive the note-off!). Then, The sounds are a little poors. My hardware configuration runs correctly with GARAGE BAND 08 ,that means that its OK . Sorry...

Great, I love it! but it needs one more function recording to export into wma files. I would give it five stars if they update it, otherwise its like freestyling only, but you cant keep anything you make. I want to be able to make something in this program, then upload it into garageband to get some vocals and drums and stuff. Anyways, I love all the presets it has and hope for a update soon.

Would like to be able to use the synth, especially since I paid money for it.

This synth has all of the features of a much more expensive synthesizer. It allows for midi key binding, occilators, filters, envelopes, banking, effects. It also comes with pre-set banks of sounds. Buy it while it is still selling for cheap, it is worth the price!

While other companies are charing up the you-know-what for virtual analog synths, Mr. Cerullo is making the world a better place by sharing the succulent fruit of his labor in a philanthropic manner. Bravo, and thank you, sir! The Vogue MK2 is exactly what I needed to start experimenting with analog synthesis without losing an arm and a leg. The fact that it’s polyphonic puts it in a class above most of the pricey hardware synths out there. I use an 88-key Korg Triton as my keyboard, and given my classical background and the type of music I make, I would have little use for a monophonic synth. The Vogue is the answer to my prayers! :D

Software Developer needs to make this program honest. This software can not be used with anything except his other software Max Magic Microtuner that cost $60 dollars. It won’t allow you to record with Garageband or use UVI to use the sounds. I think this software needs to be taken off as most Apple customers expect it to be compatible with Garagband and other possible recording software. I would like a refund because it is totally useless.

“120 preset sounds (more free sounds available on the website)…” I interpreted that to mean that it would play various “instruments.” The website appears to be a Yahoo! group; I’m not going to Yahoo! for one odd app that doesn’t seem to be what I want, anyway. This appears to be only capable of setting parameters on algorithmically-derived oscillators. I was hoping for something to play music with, but all I can get out of it are noises like you’d hear on a 1950s black and white space movie. Cute, but…I’d rather play the piano. If I’d paid for this, I’d be very upset.

I downloaded this a number of years ago, hoping for a little moxie from a well rated freeware synth. I played with it off and on for a few months, and finally through it away. Feeling lucky, I thought I’d try it again a few years later. Now I don’t feel lucky, just foolish. This is the kind of freeware that gives freeware a bad name. It hasn’t been updated for years. It looks like it was designed under OS 7.6 (Yes, children there was life before OS X, it wasn’t an easy life, or a good life,, but…). It lacks connectivity to software options that have become standards. It’s interface is clunky and difficult to manipulate. In other words, if you want to do anything except make a limited number of poor analog buzz sounds, look elsewhere. It isn’t worth the download time.

This is a cute app which is great for amateur and non-musicians to gain an understanding and appreciation for basic analog subtractive synthesis. If you’re a serious musician then you probably already have more sophisticated tools/instruments at your disposal already. My complaints are that the UI is a bit ancient and has some flaws, and that it crashes from time to time on my Mac on a beta El Cap. Other than that, an awesome app FOR FREE no less.
